September Helan Winery
September Helan is a family-run winery founded in 2009 in the foothills of Helan Mountain in Ningxia. It combines tradition and experience with an innovative approach to interpreting the uniqueness of the terroir through the cultivation of different varieties.
PRODUCTION CAPACITY
Planting Area: Xiajinshan Production Area of Helan Mountain “Sleeping Buddha”, adjacent to Jinshan Wine Town and west of Turandot Wine Town
Vineyard age: Central park trees from 9 to 13 years old (first planted in 2013), some plots from 6 to 8 years old (extended after 2017)
Climate: The climate is continental, dry with little precipitation (annual precipitation<200 mm), abundant sunlight, large temperature differences between day and night, and irrigation by the Yellow River, which helps to accumulate grape flavor compounds
Soil: The fan alluvial relief formation features a mixture of heavy gravel and sand, offering good breathability, excellent drainage and rich in minerals

In the eastern foothills of Helan Mountain, the family has built a history tied to the land and wine.
Generation after generation, it continues to work with the purpose of expressing the identity of this unique terroir through the cultivation of different grape varieties and the exploration of winemaking practices
The winery
Founded in 2009, September Helan is a family-owned winery located in the foothills of Helan Mountain, in Ningxia, China, that explores the local terroir through different grape varieties, combining expertise with a focus on the evolution of Chinese winemaking.
Since its creation, the winery has interacted with the land with simplicity and authenticity, integrating its love of the Helan mountain with the planting and production of wine. The history of the winery is written throughout the four seasons of the vineyard.
“Recognize, respect, protect, accompany and transmit” is its philosophy. “Respecting nature and the earth beneath our feet means carefully observing the rhythms of the four seasons and valuing the changes of each harvest. From the new shoots with the spring breeze to the fruits harvested at harvest, the winery continuously learns and adjusts through daily visits to the terroir, looking for planting and processing methods appropriate to this land.”
Main milestones
2009 – Ms. Li Zhihong founded the family winery, developing a vine cultivation and winemaking business.
2023 – September Helan Voice of Terroir Syrah 2020 won the Silver Award of the Decanter World Wine Competition with 90 points.
March 2025 – Received the Beydandesso China Annual Surprise Winery Award
April 2025 – Winemaker Gao Yujie was selected for the first China-Australia Wine Talent Program.
