De Ren Hong Marselan Red 2023
Xiao XI YUE Marselan Dry Red Wine is a dry red wine made from 100% Marselan, coming from the central part of the production area in the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, in Ningxia.
The winery’s vineyards are located in Zhenbeibao, Xixia District, Yinchuan, in one of the region’s primary wine-growing areas. The plots have an average altitude of approximately 1,130 meters, with good sun exposure and a marked diurnal temperature variation, conditions that favor the concentration of sugars, anthocyanins, and aromatic compounds in the grapes.
The harvest is carried out manually and in stages, selecting grapes based on their degree of ripeness. The clusters undergo careful manual selection before entering the winery. To maximize fruit quality, a gravity-fed entry system into the tanks is used, along with temperature-controlled cold maceration.
The winemaking process seeks to progressively extract the aromas, color, and tannins of the Marselan grape, while maintaining the wine’s balance. After fermentation, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, which helps integrate the fruit and provides aromatic and structural complexity.
In tasting, it presents a deep and bright ruby red color. The nose combines aromas of black cherry, plum, and blackberries with delicate notes of violet and hints of smoke and oak. The palate stands out for its soft and silky texture, with fine, balanced tannins and a long, persistent finish.
With an approximate production of 20,000 bottles, Xiao XI YUE Marselan represents an expression of this variety in the terroir of the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains.
