Philosophy

True to the “harmony between heaven, earth, and man,” we respect the terroir forged by the Helan Mountains and the Yellow River, committing to organic farming, manual harvesting, and minimal-intervention winemaking to create estate wines that stand the test of time.

The winery

Founded in 2011 and backed by Midea Holdings, Chateau Mihope is located at the eastern foot of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia, at 38.5° N latitude: one of China’s most internationally prestigious wine regions and a holder of the National Geographical Indication.

The Helan Mountain range protects the vineyards from cold northwestern winds, while the Yellow River provides irrigation water; together they shape a terroir of gravelly soils, abundant sunshine, and marked diurnal temperature variation. The winery cultivates approximately 173 hectares of its own organic vineyards, with an average age of 13 years, and seven international varieties—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Marselan, Syrah, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Riesling—hand-harvested and selected berry by berry.

The winery features imported German Bucher Vaslin equipment; gravity-flow fermentation minimizes mechanical intervention, and the wines age for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels. Annual capacity is around 400,000 bottles. Known as China’s art winery, Mihope collaborates annually with prominent contemporary artists—Ding Yi, Liu Ye, Zhang Enli, Hao Liang, and others—on artistic editions that bring the contemporary voice of Chinese wine to the world.

Faithful to the philosophy of harmony between heaven, earth, and man, the estate focuses on high-quality estate wines; its Family Reserve 1968 labels and the 10th-anniversary edition have earned notable scores and international awards.
