Philosophy
It revolves around three ideas: boldness, identity, and the expression of Ningxia’s terroir. Wang Fang built the winery with an unconventional attitude, experimenting with varieties like Riesling in an extreme environment and seeking wines with their own unique personality.
The winery
Kanaan Winery is located in the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains in Ningxia. Founded in 2011, the winery spans about 16 hectares and produces approximately 100,000 bottles each year, making it one of China’s most renowned recognized boutique wineries.
The owner, Wang Fang, comes from a family that has been making wine for decades, and she is famous for her nickname ‘Crazy Fang.’ In addition to being the owner, Wang Fang is the winery’s winemaker, representing the family’s second generation. Bold in her winemaking and daring to break rules with her wines, she has won numerous awards in important national and international competitions.
Currently, the wines are sold in over 10 markets worldwide, including mainland China (including Hong Kong and Macao), the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Spain, and Europe.
Main milestones
2011 — Founding of Kanaan Winery. Wang Fang returns to Ningxia after her years in Germany and begins her own project in the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains.
2011 — First vintage of Crazy Fang. The winery begins to develop its own identity, marked by experimentation and Wang Fang’s personality.
2015 — Great international recognition. Pretty Pony 2013 wins the Asia Red Regional Trophy at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards, becoming one of the most outstanding Chinese wines of that edition.
2015 — Recognition for several references. Black Beauty 2012 and Crazy Fang 2011 receive bronze medals at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards.
2015 — Development of Riesling. Kanaan consolidates its commitment to authentic Riesling, a rare variety in Ningxia and closely linked to Wang Fang’s experience in Germany.
2016 — International reach. The winery continues to receive recognition at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards, including a Commended for Wild Pony 2014.
Present Day — One of Ningxia’s boutique references. Kanaan maintains a philosophy based on small productions, experimentation, and the expression of the Helan territory, under the direction of Wang Fang.
